Florence, SC – The North Greenville Trailblazers dropped both games of a doubleheader to Francis Marion this afternoon at FMU Softball Stadium, falling 13-5 in game one and 5-3 in game two.
Game one saw Francis Marion take control early, scoring two runs in the 1st inning and adding three more in the 2nd to build a 5-0 lead. North Greenville remained quiet offensively until the 5th inning, when the Trailblazers erupted for five runs on six hits, highlighted by RBI singles from Emily Blackwell, Brooklyn Amble, Haylee Whitesides, and a two-RBI single by Ansley Fowler to cut the deficit to 7-5. However, the Patriots answered with six runs in the bottom of the inning, using a home run and several RBI hits to pull away for the 13-5 victory.
In game two, North Greenville struck first with a solo home run by Haylee Whitesides in the 1st inning and later tied the game at 2-2 in the 3rd on a sacrifice fly by Ansley Fowler. After Francis Marion regained the lead with a two-run home run in the 5th, the Trailblazers briefly pulled ahead 3-2 in the top of the 5th on an error that allowed a run to score. However, the Patriots responded once again with two runs in the bottom of the inning and added another in the 6th to secure the 5-3 win.
Haylee Whitesides led the offense across both games, going 5-for-7 with a home run and 2 RBIs. Emily Blackwell added 3 hits and an RBI, while Ansley Fowler recorded 2 hits and 3 RBIs on the day. Brooklyn Amble also contributed 2 hits and an RBI.
In the circle, Haylee Whitesides took the loss in game one, while Karley Green went the distance in game two, allowing 5 runs on 11 hits.
NGU will face the Tornado of King University on Wednesday, April 15th at Jan McDonald Field.
