Tigerville, SC – The North Greenville Trailblazers earned a doubleheader sweep over King this afternoon at Jan McDonald Field, winning game one 4-3 and taking game two 9-1. Head coach Sarah Hall made program history by recording her 450th career win as the head coach of the Trailblazers.
Game one was a tightly contested battle throughout. King struck first with a run in the 1st and added another in the 3rd to take a 2-0 lead. North Greenville responded in the 4th inning with three runs, highlighted by a two-RBI single from Karley Green and an RBI double by Emily Blackwell to move in front 3-2. The Trailblazers then added an important insurance run in the bottom of the 6th when Emily Blackwell brought home Gabrielle Badillo with an RBI single to make it 4-2. King answered with a run in the top of the 7th to cut the deficit to one, but Haylee Whitesides and the Trailblazers held on for the 4-3 win.
North Greenville carried that momentum into game two with an explosive start, scoring six runs in the 1st inning. Haylee Whitesides delivered a two-RBI double, Lexie Metcalf added a sacrifice fly, and Brooklyn Amble capped the inning with a two-RBI double. The Trailblazers added two more runs in the 3rd and another in the 5th to extend the lead. King's lone run came on a solo home run in the 4th, but NGU remained in control throughout to complete the sweep with a 9-1 victory.
Emily Blackwell led the offense across both games, going 3-for-7 with 3 RBIs. Karley Green added 3 hits and 3 RBIs, while Haylee Whitesides contributed 3 hits and 3 RBIs including a key double in game two. Brooklyn Amble also recorded 2 hits and 2 RBIs, and Jordan Slocum chipped in 3 hits and an RBI.
In the circle, Haylee Whitesides earned the game one win with a complete game, allowing 3 runs on 7 hits while striking out 5. Karley Green followed with a strong outing in game two, pitching 5.0 innings and allowing just 1 run on 4 hits to secure the doubleheader sweep.
North Greenville will return to action on Saturday, April 18th against the Bobcats of Lees-McRae College in Banner Elk, North Carolina.
