Gastonia, NC – The North Greenville Trailblazers began their postseason play with a victory in the Conference Carolinas Tournament by defeating the Tornado of King University with a final score of 7-3 at CaroMont Health Park.
King struck first in the opening inning and added two more runs in the 3rd to take an early 3-0 lead. North Greenville quickly responded in the bottom of the 3rd, cutting into the deficit with a solo home run by Landon Peavy followed by a sacrifice fly from Thomas Powell to make it 3-2.
The Trailblazers tied the game in the 4th inning when Connor McKee delivered an RBI single to bring home Josh Foulks. After several scoreless innings, CJ Dean came through with a two-RBI single to give NGU its first lead of the game at 5-3.
North Greenville added insurance in the 8th inning, beginning with an RBI single by Landon Peavy and followed by an RBI double from Connor McKee to extend the lead to 7-3.
Landon Peavy led the offense with 2 hits including a home run and 2 RBIs, while Connor McKee also recorded 2 hits and 2 RBIs. Josh Foulks added 2 hits and scored a run, and Lane McGaha contributed 2 hits in the win.
On the mound, Thayer Tavormina earned the win with 4.2 scoreless innings of relief, allowing just 2 hits while striking out 5. Caleb Cox closed out the game with 2.0 innings to secure the save as North Greenville improved to 43-8 on the season.
NGU will return to action tomorrow against the Mountain Lions of Young Harris College at 3:00 PM in Gastonia.
