Gastonia, N.C. - A promising start for North Greenville was quickly erased by Young Harris on Friday afternoon and NGU never recovered in an 11 - 3 loss to the Mountain Lions in the second round of the Conference Carolinas tournament.
After a scoreless first inning North Greenville broke through in the second on a
CJ Dean two run blast to give NGU a 2 - 0 lead. Young Harris struck back in the third inning. The Lions capitalized on an NGU error on a likely double - play that extended the frame going on to score six runs in the frame including a grand slam.
CJ Dean would deliver a third RBI in the home half of the third inning on a sacrifice fly to cut the lead to just three runs. The Trailblazer lineup was held in check for the remaining six innings as Young Harris pitching retired 14 - in a row through the middle frames while scoring two runs in the fourth inning and one run in three of the final four frames.
Dean led NGU going 2 - 3 with three RBI while
Thomas Powell was 2 - 4.
Mitch Wilson had NGU's only other hit. The loss to Young Harris sends NGU to the elimination bracket where they will face Mount Olive tomorrow at 11 AM.
