Greeneville, TN – North Greenville bounced back from a 9 – 1 loss in game one with an 8 – 2 split in game two, splitting a non – conference double header with Tusculum on Thursday afternoon.
The Pioneers hit NGU pitching to the tune of nine runs on eight hits in game one. They took a 5 – 1 lead in the fourth after the Trailblazers scored on a
Maddie Stone homer in the top of the fourth to cut the lead to 2 – 1. Tusculum added three more runs in the fifth inning and another in the sixth.
North Greenville collected just two hits in game one led by Stone's home run.
Emily Blackwell added the other base knock. Owyn Yall took the loss in the circle, her first of the season.
Fortunes were reversed in game two as NGU's bats got hot late in the game. The Pioneers first run of the game came in the first inning, an unearned scratch after an NGU error. The Trailblazers trailed until the fifth inning when they opened up the gates to score four. Haylee Whiteside blasted her second homer of the season, a three-run shot that made it 4 – 1 after NGU scored its first run on a fielding error.
The Trailblazers picked up right where they left off in the seventh inning.
Karley Green delivered an RBI triple while
Lexie Metcalf's RBI single would score Green from third. Another Tusculum error would score
Robyn Craig and Metcalf to extend the lead.
Haylee Whiteside earned the win in the circle by finishing off the Pioneers in the seventh. She allowed just one earned run on four hits and struck out three.
Emily Blackwell led NGU going 3 – 4 with two runs scored.
Lexie Metcalf went 2 – 3 with a run and an RBI.
