Tigerville, SC - The North Greenville Trailblazers began the 2025 season with a 3-2 to the Lions of Mars Hill University, followed by a 3-0 shutout over the Tigers of the University of West Alabama in the Trailblazer Invitational Tournament at Hayes Gymnasium.
A five set thriller began the day for the Trailblazers. Mars Hill took the opening set with a score of 25-19, but NGU would bounce back to take set two 25-22 as well as set three 26-24. MHU would fight back to win set four 25-18 before ultimately coming out on top in set five 18-16. North Greenville finished the match with a .153 attack percentage and led in points kills, blocks, assists, and digs.
In North Greenville's second match of the day, things would begin with a narrow 25-22 set win for NGU. They would then dominate set two, winning it 25-15. Set three would prove to be much more competitive as an early lead by the Trailblazers would shrink as West Alabama nearly completed a comeback to force a fourth set. However, NGU would ultimately hang on to take the set 25-23.
Samantha Ball put together an impressive day, finishing with 25 kills, 21 digs, 4 service aces, and 4 assists.
Anna Fiddelke nearly had a perfect day on the attack, posting 16 kills with just one attack error. She also recorded 8 service aces, 5 solo blocks, and 2 block assists.
Macie Gentry provided 29 digs, 8 assists, and 2 service aces.
NGU will return to action tomorrow to take on the Broncos of Fayetteville State University at Hayes Gymnasium.
