Women's Cross Country Wins Second Consecutive Race

Brevard, NC- Today the Trailblazers took a trip up north to Brevard, North Carolina for the Brevard Distance Classic. Many Conference Carolinas, as well as Division I, II, III, and NAIA schools were in attendance. The women won their second consecutive meet of the season, narrowly beating Division I Gardener-Webb University, after three lightning delays.

Sophomore Ellie Timmons was the first runner to cross the line for the Trailblazers, coming in 3rd place with a time of 18:42. Next to finish was junior Riley Shope, who finished 6th and ran a time of 19:19. Freshman Mandi Pollard and senior Riley Nicholson finished next, finishing 7th and 8th and running 19:24 and 19:25, respectively. Rounding out the top 5 for the Trailblazers was junior Addison Martin, who finished 12th and ran a personal best of 19:41.

Sophomore Lydia Gray finished 44th and ran a collegiate personal best of 21:25. Senior Christian Gidney finished in 49th and ran 21:54, and sophomore Lily Bjerkness finished in 57th and ran a time of 22:05.

From Head Coach Cameron Stober:
"I think our women's team had a really good day. We beat Gardener-Webb, which is a Division I school, which is exciting. I thought it was a good day. The girls are two-for-two now. I don't know if prior to this year we'd ever won a regular season meet, and if we have, we haven't done it back-to-back weekends, which makes this pretty special. But we have a long way to go, and we've got to keep working hard and staying healthy."

Next, the Trailblazers will head on a road trip to Louisville, Kentucky for the Live in Lou Cross Country Classic, hosted by the University of Louisville on October 4th
