NGU Pulls Away in Middle Innings to Defeat Newberry

Tigerville, SC - The North Greenville Trailblazers began the week with a 16-5 victory over the Wolves of Newberry College at Ray & Bea Dillard Field. NGU took the lead early and continued to pull away throughout the game. Home runs were not at a premium as NGU finished with a total of five, one in the 3rd, one in the 5th, and three in the 6th. Brett Blomquist was the first to hit a home run, putting NGU up 3-1 in the 3rd inning. Gideon Antle added to the lead with a home run of his own in the 5th. Newberry was able to remain in striking distance until the 6th inning, when NGU would put away any doubt. Josh Wiliams started things off with a three-run home run. Brett Blomquist would add to the lead with his second home run of the day. Gideon Antle would also hit his second home run of the day in the inning at North Greenville put up a total of eight runs in the bottom of the 6th to take a 12-1 lead. Three more runs would score in the bottom of the 7th including RBI singles by Landon Shaw and Landon Peavy. Newberry would put up a fight in the 8th inning by scoring four runs. Josh Williams would add to his big day with an RBI single in the bottom of the 8th before the Wolves put up one last run in the top of the 9th. Brady Price was named the winning pitcher with 2.0 perfect innings pitched.

Josh Williams finished with a big day, posting three hits including a home run, 4 RBIs, and two runs. Brett Blomquist recorded two hits, both home runs as well as five RBIs, three runs, and a walk. Gideon Antle also hit two home runs and provided two RBIs, two runs, and a walk.

North Greenville will take on the Lions of Emmanuel University on Friday, March 7th at Ray & Bea Dillard Field.
