North Greenville Splits Doubleheader with Barton

Tigerville, SC - The North Greenville Trailblazers and the Barton Bulldogs split a doubleheader to begin a weekend conference series, starting with a final score of 12-1 in favor of North Greenville then following that up with a 3-1 victory for Barton. Game one resulted in North Greenville taking an early lead and pulling away throughout the game. North Greenville was able to get on the board in the 1st inning when Brett Blomquist hit a two-run home run to right center field. Thomas Powell also recorded an RBI in the inning to put NGU up by three runs. The Trailblazers put three more runs on the board in the 3rd inning including a two-RBI ground-rule double by Landon Shaw. Tristan Salinas would increase the lead to seven with a solo home run in the 4th. The lead would extend even further in the 6th and 7th innings as three runs would score in the 6th including a two-RBI single by Josh Foulks and a two-run home run by Brayden Renfrow in the 7th. an RBI groundout in the 8th would put the Bulldogs on the board, but North Greenville would comfortable secure the victory. Brody Fowler notched his fourth win of the season. Game two proved to be a low-scoring game as pitching handled the batting lineups for most of the night. Both teams would record solo shots in the 1st inning, with NGU's coming from Brett Blomquist. The 2nd through the 7th inning would go scoreless as pitching would control the majority of the game. However, Barton would come through in extra innings with a two-run home run to take the lead. North Greenville would get the tying run on base in the bottom of the 8th, but would ultimately come up empty as the Bulldogs would even up the series. Matthew Taubensee was charged with the loss.

Landon Shaw finished a strong afternoon with four hits including a double as well as two RBIs, a run scored, and a walk. Brett Blomquist hit two home runs and provided four RBIs, three runs scored, and a walk. Matty Brown put together a quality start, pitching 7.0 innings and allowing just one run on four hits and a walk while striking out six batters.

North Greenville and Barton will wrap up the series tomorrow at 1:00 PM.
