The North Greenville Trailblazers split a doubleheader with the Crusaders of Belmont Abbey Crusaders, with Belmont Abbey taking the first game in close fashion with a score of 4-3 before NGU went on to dominate game two with a score of 10-1. However, with BAC taking game one of the series on Friday, North Greenville dropped the series to fall to 6-3 in conference play. Bennet Roemer took the mount in game one, pitching 4.0 innings before being relieved by
Matthew Taubensee, who pitched the 5th and 6th innings. After a scoreless 1st inning, Belmont Abbey got on the board in the 2nd with a solo home run. NGU responded and took the lead in the 4th when four runs came in to score including a solo home run by
Josh Foulks and a two-RBI single by
Landon Shaw. However, BAC would bounce back with two runs in the 4th to tie the game at 3-3. An RBI single put Belmont Abbey back in front by a run.
Bryce Roddey would hit a leadoff single, but the next three batters were retired to end the threat and secure the win and the series for BAC.
Matty Brown took the mount for game two, pitching 6.0 scoreless innings. NGU took a 1-0 lead in the top of the 1st and added an additional run in the 3rd.
Josh Foulks drove in both runs before driving in yet another by way of a sacrifice fly in the 7th. North Greenville would go on to score six runs in the 7th including a bases-clearing double by
Payton Howard. Belmont Abbey was able to get on the board in the bottom of the inning. North Greenville added two insurance runs in the 9th with two bases-loaded walks.
Tyler Dean finishing things off on the mound with a scoreless 9th inning. Brown was the winning pitcher.
Bryce Roddey finished the day with four hits including a double and also posted an RBI.
Brett Blomquist posted three hits including two doubles as well as two runs scored and a walk.
Matty Brown pitched 6.0 scoreless innings, allowing just three walks and a hit while striking out three.
NGU will take on the Wolves of Newberry College on Tuesday, March 4th at Ray & Bea Dillard Field.
