Tigerville, SC - The North Greenville Trailblazers improved to 9-7 for the season after completing a sweep of the Newberry Wolves, with a game one final score of 10-2 and a game two final score of 6-3 at Jan McDonald Field. Game one of the afternoon resulted in NGU pulling away throughout. Things began with four runs in the 1st inning. NGU scored an additional run in the 2nd, but the 4th inning was where the Trailblazers would show off their power as an RBI triple by
Karley Green and a two-run home run by
Maddie Stone increased the lead to eight. Although Newberry was able to get on the board with two runs in the 5th, the Trailblazers did the same in the bottom of the inning as the run rule ended the game early.
Karley Green was the winning pitcher. North Greenville scored runs in just one inning in game two. However, it would prove to be a big inning as the bottom of the 3rd resulted in six runs including an RBI double by
Sydney Price and RBI singles by
Karley Green and
Ari Day. Newberry got on the board early with a run in the 1st, and after NGU's runs in the 3rd, scored two additional runs in the 5th. With a three run lead going into the 7th,
Sydney Clark pitched a scoreless inning to earn the save while
Kylie Rast pitched the opening 6.0 innings and recorded the win.
Sydney Price posted three hits, two of them doubles as well as two runs, two RBIs, and a walk.
Ali Hartin also finished with three hits in addition to two RBIs and a run scored.
Karley Green pitched 4.0 scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and one walk while striking out two.
NGU will take on the Saints of Limestone University on Saturday, March 1st at Jan McDonald Field.
