Tigerville, SC - The North Greenville Trailblazers completed a sweep of the UNC Pembroke Braves with a game one final score of 4-3 and a game two final score of 16-7 at Ray & Bea Dillard Field. The nationally top-ranked NGU improved their overall record to 14-1 with a 5-1 record in conference play. North Greenville took an early lead in game one with a solo home run by
Gideon Antle and an RBI single by
Josh Foulks. NGU scored two in the 3rd inning as well when Foulks hit a two-RBI double to right field. UNCP put up a fight, getting on the board with two runs in the 4th and pulling within a run in the 6th. With the tying run on third base with two outs in teh top of the 7th, a close play at first resulted in a safe call, with the tying run scoring. However, the decision would be reversed, ending the game with NGU hanging on by a run.
Bennett Roemer was the winning pitcher, his fourth win of the year while
Matthew Taubensee earned his second save of the season. Game two begin with a six run inning by UNC Pembroke, which included a grand slam against starting pitcher
Jake Monroe. However, the Braves would score just one more run throughout the remainder of the game while NGU went on to win convincingly. Key RBIs included a three-run home run by
Landon Shaw, two-RBI double by
Lane McGaha and
Landon Shaw, and a late two-RBI home run by
Bryce Roddey.
Matty Brown went on to take the win.
Landon Shaw put together an impressive performance, finishing with five hits including a home run and three doubles. Bryce Rodder posted three hits including a home run as well as three runs scored, three RBIs, and two walks.Â
Matty Brown pitched 4.0 scoreless innings, allowing just four hits and a walk while striking out six.
NGU will return to action on Tuesday, February 25th against the Flames of Lee University at Ray & Bea Dillard Field.
