Murfreesboro, N.C. – North Greenville improved to 2 – 0 in league play on Saturday afternoon with a 31 – 16 win over Chowan. North Greenville's defense held the Hawks to just six second half points in the winning effort while putting up a season high in rushing attempts and yardage.
The Trailblazers finished the day with 56 – rushing attempts for 249 – total yards. Two players for North Greenville finished with 90+ yards while totaling three total rushing touchdowns. Ramirez, who leads the conference in passing attempts and yardage threw the ball just 17 – times as NGU leaned on the running game and defense.
North Greenville defenders held the Hawks to just 271 – yards of total offense on the day. They held the hawks to just 4 of 11 on third down and sacked Chowan quarterbacks three times in the winning effort.
North Greenville led 14 – 10 at halftime but created some separation in the third quarter. The Trailblazers scored a pair of touchdowns including one from
Dylan Ramirez and one from Deshawn Thompkins, both of which were rushing touchdowns to make it 28 – 10.
Cillian Bonner's fourth quarter field goal would make it a 21 – point lead.
Thompkins led NGU's rushing attack with 98 – yards on 19 – attempts and a touchdown. Bennett finished with 93 – yards on 15 – carries and a score.
Bryson Oliver led North Greenville with five total tackles.
Ashton Howard had three tackles and a sack.
