Tigerville, SC - The North Greenville Crusaders split a doubleheader this afternoon at Ray & Bea Dillard Field to take the three game series with game one of the day ending in a 7-0 shutout loss, but was followed by a 7-5 win for NGU. North Greenville faced a dominant performance by Belmont Abbey starting pitcher Drew Stegura, who went on to pitch a 7.0 inning shutout while allowing just one hit and two walks while striking out seven.
Landon Shaw posted NGU's only hit of the game.
Reece Fields ultimately took the loss, just his second of the year. The Crusaders quickly got the bats going in game two as
Kaleb Hall scored NGU's first run of the day with a ground-rule double to right field. Belmont Abbey would take the lead with a run in the 2nd and two runs in the 3rd, but North Greenville responded with two runs in the 4th by way of a two-run single through the left side by
Jake Sears. BAC once again took the lead in the 7th with two runs, but NGU bounced back in the bottom of the inning with four runs including a two-run pinch hit home run by
Carter Dierdorf.
Dawson Taylor pitched the 7th to receive the win while
Nate Roof closed out things with the final two innings to earn the save.
Landon Shaw posted 2 hits as well as an RBI.
David Lewis recorded 2 hits as well as a run scored.
Nate Roof pitched 2.0 shutout innings, allowing just 1 hit and striking out 4 to earn a save.
North Greenville will take on the Railsplitters of Lincoln Memorial University on Tuesday, April 9th in Harrogate, Tennessee.
