Tigerville, SC - The North Greenville Crusaders experienced a tough afternoon at Jan McDonald Field, dropping a doubleheader to the Bearcats of Lander University with a game one final score of 8-1 and a game two final score of 7-5. LU led early on with a two-run home run before North Greenville was able to score in the 3rd with an RBI bunt single by
Karley Green. However, that would be it for NGU in the run column as Lander pulled away from there with three runs in the 5th and three more runs in the 6th. The Crusaders finished the game with seven runners left on base.
Georgia Lieb was charged with the loss. Game two proved to be a more competitive game. Lander once again led early on with two runs in the 1st inning.
Lexie Gunter was able to respond in the bottom of the 2nd with a two-run home run to tie things up. The Bearcats put together a five run 4th inning to pull away. NGU did respond with a run in the bottom of the inning by way of a sacrifice fly by
Virginia Bishop. After scoreless 5th and 6th innings, the Crusaders not only put together two runs in the bottom of the 7th, but the winning run would come to the plate. However, Lander was able to end things with a groundout to hang on for the win.
Georgia Lieb was again charged with the loss.
Karley Green recorded 3 hits, an RBI, and a run scored.
Ansley Fowler also posted 3 hits as well as a run scored.
Lexie Gunter hit her 4th home run of the season.
North Greenville will return to action on Wednesday, April 3rd against the Erskine Flying Fleet at Jan McDonald Field.
