The North Greenville Crusaders split a doubleheader this afternoon in Belmont, North Carolina against the Crusaders of Belmont Abbey, winning game one by a wide margin with a final score of 9-1 but dropping game two, also by a wide margin with a final score of 13-7.
Karley Green collected her fourteenth win of the year, pitching a complete game and allowing just one run on four hits and three walks while striking out six. NGU pulled away early throughout the first three innings to take a 5-0 lead including a two-run home run by
Virginia Bishop in the 3rd inning, her first home run of the year. Belmont Abbey was able to get on the board in the bottom of the 3rd, but that would be all as NGU would pull away further in the 5th inning with four runs including a three-run home run by
Maddie Stone. Belmont Abbey would load the bases in the bottom of the 5th, but
Karley Green was able to record the final out to end the game early due to the run rule. The big inning plagued North Greenville in game two as Belmont Abbey was able to put together a five run 1st inning and a six run 4th inning. NGU would put up a fight with three runs in the 2nd including RBI doubles by
Emily Dawson and
Emily Blackwell, two runs in the 3rd including an RBI triple by
Lexie Gunter, and an additional run in the 4th by way of an RBI single by
Virginia Bishop. Down by seven, NGU would put up one last fight in the 7th inning as
Jordan Slocum brought in a run, but it was not enough for a comeback as Belmont Abbey would hang on for the win.
Maddie Gore was charged with the loss.
Emily Blackwell finished the day with 5 hits including a double as well as an RBI and a run scored.
Virginia Bishop recorded 4 hits including her first home run of the season. She also collected 4 RBIs and a run scored.
Karley Green pitched 5.0 solid innings, allowing just 1 run on 4 hits and 3 walks with 6 strikeouts.
NGU will return to action on Wednesday, March 27th against the Bearcats of Lander University at Jan McDonald Field.
