NGU Swept in Doubleheader, Drops Series to UNC Pembroke

North Greenville fell in a weekend series for the first time this season, dropping a doubleheader to the Braves of UNC Pembroke with final scores of 13-4 and 6-3 in Pembroke, North Carolina. Reece Fields took the mound in game one of the day but only lasted 2.0 innings as he gave up nine runs to end his day early. After the Braves scored three runs in the 1st, NGU responded with two runs in the 2nd including an RBI single by Bryce Roddey. However, UNCP would pull away further with six runs in the bottom of the inning. The Braves would add three additional runs in the 4th before the Crusaders responded with two runs in the 5th including an RBI double by Colin Fowler. UNCP added a run by way of a solo home run in the bottom of the 6th and were able to secure the win. Fields was charged with the loss, his first loss of the season. Game two began with two scoreless innings, but UNCP would get on the board in the bottom of the 3rd with three runs. David Lewis put NGU on the board with a solo home run while Bryce Roddey also knocked in a run by way of an RBI single. UNC Pembroke added another run in the bottom of the inning. Dakota Britt also hit a home run in the 5th to cut the deficit back down to one, but the Braves were able to add an insurance run in the 6th and 8th innings and ultimately were able to hang on to complete the series win. Nate Lamb pitched the first 4.1 innings, but took the loss.

Bryce Roddey finished the day with 3 hits and 2 RBIs. Pat Monteith recorded 2 hits and a stolen base. Kaleb Hall posted 2 hits including a double, 2 runs, and an RBI.

The Crusaders will face the Bulldogs of Barton College on Friday, March 22nd in Wilson, North Carolina.
