North Greenville Splits Doubleheader with Barton

The North Greenville Crusaders split a doubleheader this afternoon in Wilson, North Carolina with the Bulldogs of Barton College, falling in game one with a final score of 2-1 but bouncing back to take game two with a final score of 7-2. Game one proved to be a pitchers' duel as the two teams combined for just three runs and ten hits. A two-run home run gave the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead in the 3rd. Pat Monteith was able to get North Greenville on the board with a solo shot to left field, but that would be all that NGU would put in the run column as Barton was able to hang on for the win. The Crusaders did put together several opportunities to score late, but would leave the bases loaded in the 6th and left two more runners stranded in the 8th. Jake Monroe pitched a solid 5.0 innings but took the loss. NGU quickly bounced back in game two, taking an early lead with a two-run home run by Jax Cash. Three more runs would come in to score for NGU in the top of the 2nd including an RBI single by Bryce Roddey. The next three innings went scoreless, but Barton would end the scoreless streak with two runs in the 6th. However, the Crusaders answered with two runs of their own in the form of RBI singles by Thomas Powell and Landon Peavy. Dawson Taylor shut things down with a scoreless final inning to secure the win. Reece Fields, who pitched all but the last innings, earned the win.

Pat Monteith finished the afternoon with 3 hits including a home run as well as 2 runs and an RBI. Landon Shaw posted 2 doubles and a run scored. Reece Fields recorded his 7th win of the season, pitching 6.0 innings and allowing just 2 runs on 6 hits and 3 walks while striking out 5.

The series will conclude tomorrow with a start time of 1:00 PM.
