North Greenville Pulls Away Late in Win Over USC Beaufort

Tigerville, SC - The North Greenville Crusaders kicked off their first home series of the season with an 8-1 victory over the Sand Sharks of USC Beaufort at Ray & Bea Dillard Field. NGU was held out of the hit column until the 5th inning as both starting pitchers controlled things early on. However, NGU would break through with a two-run single by Dakota Britt. North Greenville would add to the lead in the bottom of the inning when Carter Dierdorf hit a sacrifice fly to add a run to the lead. Two at bats later, Jax Cash would drive in two runs of his own with a single to right field. Matthew Taubensee entered the game to relieve Fields, starting off his appearance with a three up, three down inning. A double down the right field line by Pat Monteith drove in the sixth run of the game while David Lewis followed that up with an RBI single to left field. NGU's final run of the game would come in the 8th inning with an RBI double down the left field line by Landon Shaw. Caleb Freeman finished things off on the mound. He would allow a run by way of a wild pitch, but would allow just the single run as a strikeout ended the game. Reece Fields notched his second win of the year.

Reece FIelds put together a dominant performance as the starting pitcher, pitching 6.0 innings allowing no runs, 2 hits, and a walk while striking out 9. Pat Monteith finished his night with 2 hits including a double, 2 runs scored, and an RBI. Landon Shaw posted a double, a run scored, an RBI, and a walk.
