The North Greenville Crusaders dropped a doubleheader to the Wolves of Newberry College this afternoon in Newberry, South Carolina with final scores of 4-1 and 10-4. Solid pitching by both teams was the story in game one. However, the Wolves would manage two runs in the 3rd and two insurance runs in the 6th. Although NGU did get on the board in the top of the 4th with a sacrifice fly by
Karley Green, it would not be enough as the Wolves would hang on for the win.
Karley Green pitched a complete game but received the loss. Game two began with a productive 1st inning for both teams. NGU started things off with three runs including an RBI single by
Ali Hartin and a two-RBI single by
Emily Dawson. However, NBY quickly responded with four runs in the bottom of the inning. Newberry would add three more runs in the bottom of the 2nd to take a 7-3 lead.
Maddie Stone would cut into the deficit with a solo home run in the 4th, but the Wolves would respond with a run in the 5th and two insurance runs in the 6th, ultimately winning the game by six runs.
Georgia Lieb, who started the game was charged with the loss.
Maddie Stone posted 3 hits including a home run, a run scored, and an RBI.
Karley Green finished with 2 hits, both of them doubles, as well as an RBI. She also pitched a complete game allowing 3 earned runs on 8 hits and 2 walks while collecting 3 strikeouts.
NGU will return to action on Saturday, February 10th in Aiken, South Carolina against the Pacers of USC Aiken.
