The North Greenville Crusaders split a Saturday doubleheader this afternoon in Boca Raton, Florida as well as West Palm Beach, Florida with a 3-2 loss to the Fighting Knights of Lynn University followed by an 18-10 victory over the Sailfish of Palm Beach Atlantic University.
Game one saw runs scored early between the two teams.
Bryce Roddey put the first run of the game on the board by way of a sacrifice fly. Lynn responded with a solo home run in the bottom of the inning, which was followed by a run due to an error in the bottom of the 2nd. NGU tied things up with an RBI single by
Thomas Powell. However, the Fighting Knights responded with an RBI single of their own. Pitching then took over as the remaining five innings would go scoreless, allowing Lynn to hang on for the upset victory.
Myles Daniels was charged with the loss.
Game two had no shortage of runs as all but one inning went scoreless. NGU took an early lead with two runs including an RBI triple by
David Lewis. After Palm Beach Atlantic responded with a run in the 1st and a run in the 2nd, the Crusaders reclaimed the lead with three runs in the 3rd. The Sailfish scored three runs of their own to tie things back up in the bottom of the 4th and claimed the lead for themselves with two more runs in the bottom of the 5th. The 7th inning proved to be a success for both teams with the Crusaders scoring four runs including an RBI double by
David Lewis and Lynn responding with three runs. From here, NGU was able to pull away as four more runs would be scored in the 8th including a bases-clearing double to right field. They would continue to pull away in the 9th with five insurance runs including a two-RBI double by
Landon Shaw.
Cade Spikes closed things out with a scoreless 9th inning to preserve the win.
Kadan Roach was deemed the winning pitcher.
Thomas Powell led NGU in total hits with 4 and also posted 2 runs and 2 RBIs.
David Lewis led in RBIs, finishing the day with 6 RBIs, 3 hits, 2 runs, and a walk.
Bryce Roddey also had a solid day at the plate, finishing with 4 hits, 2 RBIs, a run, and a walk.
NGU will return to action on Wednesday, February 7th against the Bears of Lenoir-Rhyne University in Hickory, North Carolina.
