North Greenville Splits Series Against Tusculum

The North Greenville Crusaders split a doubleheader against the Pioneers of Tusculum University, winning game one with a final score of 7-5 but falling in game two with a score of 10-4. The series split puts North Greenville's overall record at 4-6 heading into the weekend.

Game one started off as a pitchers' dual as both starters would pitch three up, three down innings in the 1st and 2nd. NGU would break through with their first base hit and also get on the scoreboard in the top of the 3rd when a wild pitch allowed Ansley Fowler to score. North Greenville was able to break the game open in the 4th as five runs would score including a two-RBI single by Callie Trapp. Tusculum would finally get on the board with two runs in the 5th. The Crusaders responded with an insurance run in the 7th by way of an RBI double by Karley Green, which would prove to be important as the Pioneers were able to make things interesting with three runs scored to cut the deficit to two. However, Karley Green would end the game with a strikeout to preserve the win.

Game two began with a two run first inning by Tusculum. NGU would claim the lead in the top of the 3rd with four runs including a two-run home run by Emily Dawson. However, the Pioneers reclaimed the lead in the 5th with a five run inning. They would show off their power in the 5th and 6th innings with two home runs to add three insurance runs. Sydney Clark, who pitched the opening 3.2 innings, was charged with the loss.

Karley Green put together a solid afternoon, posting 3 hits including 2 doubles and an RBI. On the mound, she pitched a complete game, finishing with 5 runs allowed on 6 hits and 4 walks while striking out 7.

NGU will return to action on Saturday, February 17th against the Cobras of Coker University in Hartsville, South Carolina.
