Crusaders Fall Behind in Second Half in Loss to Francis Marion

The North Greenville Crusaders kept up with the Francis Marion Patriots but fell behind in the second half to ultimately drop the conference contest with a final score of 86-74 in Florence, South Carolina. After getting off to a slow start, NGU bounced back in the first half and even led by as much as three. The Crusaders led by two with twenty seconds remaining in the half, but the Patriots would score a last-second three pointer to lead by one at halftime. Things would remain competitive early on in the second half. However, a five minute scoreless streak by the Crusaders would result in sixteen straight points by the Patriots. NGU was able to cut the deficit down to eleven, but Francis Marion would manage a comfortable lead and ultimately end things with a twelve point win. The Crusaders slightly led in overall field goal percentage, shooting .444 from the field. However, Francis Marion dominated the game in points off turnovers 21-5 as well as second chance points 14-3.

Max Topham led the day with 22 points. He also recorded 4 assists, 2 blocks, 2 rebounds, and a steal. Zak Perdew posted 15 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, and a block. CaDarrius Sowell finished with 9 points, 3 steals, 2 assists, and a rebound.

NGU will return to action on Wednesday, January 24th against the Owls of Warren Wilson College in Swannanoa, North Carolina.
