NGU Defeats Mount Olive to Advance to Conference Carolinas Championship

Box Score For the first time in program history, the North Greenville Crusaders are heading to the Conference Carolinas Tournament Championship after defeating the Trojans of the University of Mount Olive with a final score of 17-15 this evening in Mount Olive, North Carolina. The Crusaders led the night in total shots 50-40 and caused a total of eleven turnovers. Mount Olive was able to get off to a hot start in the first quarter by scoring the first three goals of the game. However, NGU would score three of the final four goals in the quarter to trail by just one going into the second. UMO would once again get off to a strong start in the quarter, scoring the first two goals. North Greenville once again responded with four of the next five goals as the two teams would go into halftime with the Trojans up by one. The Crusaders would be the team to score first in the third quarter. Momentum would change several times throughout the third, but after NGU was able to tie things up at 11-11, UMO would score the final two goals of the quarter to take a narrow 13-11 lead into the fourth. The Crusaders would start the fourth with the momentum by scoring the first two goals to tie the game up once again at 13-13. The score would be tied twice more before North Greenville took its first lead of the game with a goal by Alex Brooks with 1:21 remaining. After a key save by Joe Amici, NGU would work quickly down the field and Anthony Pecoraro would put the game on ice with a goal to secure the win. After one last save by Amici, time would run out on Mount Olive as NGU would advance to the championship game.
