The North Greenville Crusaders were put to the test but ultimately came away with a come-from-behind victory this evening in Houston, Texas by defeating the Wonder Boys of Arkansas Tech with a final score of 11-9. North Greenville trailed throughout the first seven innings, but a rally in the 8th would put the Crusaders up for the first time. After giving up a grand slam in the top of the first inning, NGU responded with a three-run home run by
Marek Chlup. The next three innings went scoreless, which was followed by the Wonder Boys scoring three runs in the top of the fifth inning. The Crusaders responded once again with two runs in the bottom of the inning. ATU posted two additional runs in the sixth, putting the Crusaders down by four.
Bryce Roddey cut into the lead with a solo shot in the bottom of the sixth, then
Pat Monteith hit an RBI double in the seventh to cut the deficit down to two runs. After an error allowed a run to score on
Bryce Roddey's sacrifice bunt,
Caleb Freeman would tie the game with an RBI double down the left field line. Then, with two runners on base, John Michael Faile would put NGU in the lead for the first time with a two-run single to shortstop.
Michael Rodriguez, who pitched the final two innings, allowed just one hit and one walk while striking out five to receive the win.
