Wilson, NC - The North Greenville Crusaders won their fourth consecutive Conference Carolinas Tournament championship in dramatic fashion by defeating the Trojans of Mount Olive with a final score of 7-6 in extra innings on a cold night at Historic Fleming Stadium. Reece Fields on the mound, Mount Olive would get on the board first in the bottom of the 3rd with a sacrifice fly. NGU would respond in the top of the 4th when
Zach Zarra singled to left center to tie things back up at 1-1. UMO would reclaim the lead in the bottom of the 6th with a run by way of an RBI single before opening up the lead to four with three runs in the bottom of the 7th. NGU was finally able to get the offense going again in the top of the 8th with RBI doubles by
Marek Chlup and
Josh Senter, cutting the deficit down to two. The Trojans would add an insurance run in the bottom of the inning with a an RBI groundout. Down by two runs with one out in the top of the 9th, North Greenville would put together a rally to remember.
Bryce Roddey started things off with a single to first base.
Cory Bivins would follow the hit up by drawing a walk.
Gehrig Octavio then loaded up the bases by being hit by a pitch. A wild pitch would allow all three runners to advance, with
Bryce Roddey scoring.
Ethan Stringer would come through with the clutch hit, a two-RBI double to right field which would tie the game up at 6-6.
Tristen Hudson then entered the game, pitching a 1-2-3 bottom of the 9th to force extra innings.
Zach Zarra began the 10th inning with a walk. A sactifice bunt by
Jax Cash advanced Zarra to 2nd, where
Jordan Holladay would drive him in from with a pinch hit single to right center.
Tristen Hudson remained on the mound for the 10th inning. With two outs, Hudson would run into some trouble by allowing two walks. However, he would then put up the final strikeout to end the game with NGU dog-piling near the pitcher's mound.
