North Greenville opened up a weekend conference series against the Hawks of Chowan University with a 12-4 victory this afternoon in Murfreesboro, North Carolina. The Crusaders scored twelve runs off of thirteen hits, eleven walks, and the help of four errors by the Hawks. After a scoreless 1st inning, Chowan took an early 1-0 lead in the 2nd. After the Crusaders tied things up with a run in the top of the 5th, the Hawks reclaimed the lead with a solo home run in the bottom of the inning. However, North Greenville would take over the game with five runs scored in the top of the 6th including a two-run double by
Cory Bivins. North Greenville would score two additional runs in the top of the 8th before Chowan responded in the bottom of the inning with two runs as well. NGU had no problem getting insurance runs as the Crusaders would score four in the top of the 9th including RBI doubles by
Ethan Stringer,
Marek Chlup, and
Tanner Wells.
Andrew Kaminsky closed out the game with a scoreless 9th inning.
Noah Takac, who pitched a strong 4.0 innings, received the win.
