Monteith's Grand Slam Seals Win Over Mount Olive

Tigerville, SC - The North Greenville Crusaders started a weekend conference series with an 8-4 victory over the Trojans of the University of Mount Olive this afternoon at Ray & Bea Dillard Field. NGU led the way in the hit column as well with eleven hits while the pitching staff would allow just six. North Greenville would quickly get to worn in the run column, scoring two runs in the bottom of the 1st with RBIs by Marek Chlup and Josh Senter. Mount Olive would respond in the top of the 2nd with two runs of their own, but a sacrifice fly by John Michael Faile would allow the Crusaders to regain the lead. The Trojans took their first lead of the game with two runs in the top of the 5th, but Pat Monteith would hit a grand slam in the bottom of the inning to put the Crusaders a three run lead. Marek Chlup would score one more run for NGU in the bottom of the 6th with an RBI double, and pitching would take control from there as Brent Herlong and Stephen Kight would collectively pitch three shutout innings to close out the game. Noah Takac, who relieved starter Jax Cash in the 3rd inning, was the winning pitcher.
