Crusaders advance to championship after sweeping Mount Olive

Bristol – North Greenville is one step close to making program history after a 3-0 win over Mount Olive in the Conference Carolinas semi-finals. 
 
Both teams struggled offensively as NGU hit just .163 while the Trojans hit it at a .139 clip. The Crusaders put down 10 more kills than the UMO with 42 compared to just 32 for the Trojans. Mount Olive also struggled at the service line handing NGU seven points on seven errors. 
 
A big lead in the first set for North Greenville resulted in a 25-17 victory. The Crusaders led by as many as seven points in the opening frame. Abigail Durham and Emilie Allen would put the finishing touches on the first win of the day with the help of a UMO service error. Allen added the game winning kill after making it 24-16 with a service ace. 
 
Mount Olive looked to be in command of the second set, leading by as many as seven points before NGU put together a big run to take the lead. The Crusaders rattled off seven straight points including a kill from Erin Allen which made it 19-19. The Trojans regained control and led 23-22 but two kills, one from Kelli Davis and another from Durham made it 24-23. The game point came on an error by the Trojans. 
 
Mount Olive once again led big in what would be the final set but the Crusaders continued to battle. A six point lead dwindled to just two before back-to-back kills  from Durham and another UMO error evened it at 18. North Greenville put the finishing touches on the final set, scoring seven of the final eight points. Kasie Thomas would lead the charge with three kills while Paige Beisecker would add a pair of her own to send NGU to the tournament finals. 
 
Abigail Durham led the Crusaders with 12-kills while Erin Allen added 10. Thomas finished with eight kills while Beisecker tacked on five. Abby Pyke dished out 18-assissts while Ashlyn Conner added 16. Erin Allen led the tean with two aces. Whitney Kahler led all players with 22-digs on defense while Kelli Davis had a team high four assisted blocks. 
 
The Crusaders will play the winner of #2 King and #6 Barton Sunday at 4 Pm.
