NGU Enters Conference Play With Loss to Belmont Abbey

Tigerville, SC - North Greenville was on the wrong side of the Battle of the Crusaders, falling to Belmont Abbey College with a final score of 15-7 at Pepsi Stadium. After falling behind by several goals, NGU began to get momentum on their side late in the 1st half, but Belmont Abbey would turn on the burners in the 2nd half to pull away. Jillian Chiesa led the team with three goals.

Recap
  • Jillian Chiesa would put the Crusaders on the board early by taking the opening draw control and quickly scoring. However, Belmont Abbey would respond by scoring the next five goals to lead 5-1. Chiesa would stop the bleeding with a free position goal to cut the deficit to three points. After BAC responded with a free position goal of their own, Chiesa would once again score off of another free position shot to make the score 6-3 at halftime.
  • After two goals by BAC to begin the 2nd half, Emma Mayew would score her third goal of the season. Belmont Abbey would come through with another goal before Rachel Kellogg would enter the goal column with a free position goal. Belmont Abbey would then spend the next eight minutes coming through with six goals to gain a lead that proved to be insurmountable. In the final five minutes, NGU would end the game with two goals, one by Emma Mayew and one by Rachel Kellogg.
Individual
  • Jillian Chiesa put together another impressive performance before an injury ended her day early. She scored three goals and recorded 5 draw controls, a ground ball and a caused turnover.
  • Emma Mayew was solid on both sides of the ball, posting 2 goals and causing 2 turnovers. 
  • Rachel Kellogg scored 2 goals while providing 2 ground balls and 2 caused turnovers.
