North Greenville Falls to Barton, Holds 5th Seed in Conference Carolinas Tournament

North Greenville ended the 2020-21 regular season with an 89-69 loss to the Barton Bulldogs in Wilson, NC. NGU held a one point lead at halftime, but the Bulldogs would dominate the 2nd half to ultimately take the one-sided victory. With the regular season now complete, North Greenville holds the #5 seed in the Conference Carolinas Tournament.

Recap
  • The opening quarter proved to be a tight one as no lead greater than four would occur. Down by one, a layup by Kira Bell and a jumper by Savannah Hughes gave the Crusaders a three point lead. Three ties would follow, with the Bulldogs eventually taking a four point lead to end the quarter.
  • After trailing by six early on in the 2nd quarter, the Crusaders scored five straight point to claim the lead. NGU led by three with less than a minute left in the half before the Bulldogs closed it out with a layup. North Greenville took a 40-39 lead into halftime.
  • Barton would get going in the 3rd quarter as NGU went cold, allowing Barton to lead by as much as 16 in the quarter including a 13-3 run. The Crusaders would shoot just 17.65 % from the field for the quarter while BC shot 62.5% from the field.
  • The Bulldog lead would continue to increase in the 4th quarter. Journey Muhammad would make 3 three pointers throughout the quarter, but Barton would lead by as much as 23 before the Crusaders closed the final deficit to 20 points.

  • Peace Okeke posted a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. 
  • Journey Muhammad recorded 18 points with 9 of those coming in the 4th quarter. 
  • Savannah Hughes scored 14 points with 4 rebounds, 4 assists, and a steal.

  • The Crusaders will face the King Tornado in the first round of the Conference Carolinas Tournament in Bristol, Tennessee on Tuesday, March 2nd.
