North Greenville Falls to King in Five Sets

The North Greenville Crusaders lost a tough match in five sets to the Tornado of King University tonight in Bristol, Tennessee. NGU led nearly every category throughout the night, but ultimately fell short on the scoreboard. Jackson Gilbert once again led the team in kills with 23.

Recap
  • After a competitive start to the opening set, the Crusaders put together a 4-1 run to lead 8-5. Late in the set, the Tornado began to pull away, and ended the opening set with a 7-1 run to give King a 25-20 set win.
  • The Crusaders trailed by a small margin early on in set two, but got going with a 9-2 run later to take an 18-12 lead. King would pull within four, but a kill by Brandon Baker won the set for the Crusaders with a score of 25-20.
  • A close set three began with the two teams trading points. King would get the first run of the set, but NGU would respond with a run as well to tie the set at 16-16. Tied at 22-22, the Tornado went on to score three of the final four to take the third set 25-23.
  • Set four was mostly dominated by NGU. After the Tornado scored the first two points, NGU would take over the lead and never look back. North Greenville ended the set with a 10-3 run to win it 25-16. 
  • King turned the tide to begin the final set, jumping out to an 8-3 lead. North Greenville would fight back though, and even take a one point lead to make the score 12-11. However, the Tornado took the momentum back, scoring four of the final five points to win 15-13.
Individual
  • Jackson Gilbert had yet another solid match, posting 23 kills, 6 digs, and 4 total blocks.
  • Brandon Baker was also impressive, recording 10 kills and a .421 attack percentage. He was also big defensively with 7 blocks.
  • Diego Rosich also hit 10 kills with 7 digs and 3 blocks.

  • NGU will face the Lees-McRae Bobcats on Saturday, February 27th in Banner Elk, North Carolina.
