Crusaders Unable to Hang On To First Half Lead, Fall to Lions

North Greenville was unable to hang on to a ten point lead, falling to the Lions of Emmanuel College with a final score of 72-64 in Franklin Springs, Georgia. The Crusaders were poised to complete the upset with a strong 2nd quarter, but Emmanuel would close the gap in the 3rd and take the lead for good in the 4th. Haylee Luttrell once again led in points with 16. Tolisha Walker posted a double-double.

Recap
  • Emmanuel would take the momentum early on in the 1st, scoring seven of the first nine points. However, NGU would get going, taking a five point lead by the end of the 1st quarter that included two three pointers by Journey Muhammad. 
  • Two minutes went by without a point being scored in the 2nd. After two free throws by the Lions, an 8-2 run would put the Crusaders up by nine halfway through the 2nd quarter. North Greenville would go on to lead by as much as 13 in the quarter and would lead by ten at halftime.
  • Savannah Hughes started off the 3rd quarter with a jumper, putting NGU back up by 12. However, Emmanuel would hold the momentum for the remainder of the quarter. Late in the quarter, the Lions were able to tie the game at 45-45. Tolisha Walker would score late with a layup and a jumper to allow the Crusaders to hang on to a narrow lead at the end of the 3rd.
  • The Lions quickly tied the game at 51-51 early in the 4th. From there, EC would take over the game, holding a double digit lead twice in the quarter. North Greenville would get the deficit down to six points late in the quarter, but Emmanuel would complete the comeback victory in the end.

  • Haylee Luttrell led the Crusaders with 16 points. She also provided 6 rebounds and 3 steals.
  • Tolisha Walker posted a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. She led in blocks with 2.
  • Journey Muhammad scored 10 points with 2 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals.
