Crusaders Overcome Double Digit Deficit to Beat Limestone

The North Greenville Crusaders captured their first win of the young season with a 66-60 victory over the Saints of Limestone University in Milledgeville, Georgia. NGU trailed by eight at the half and would fall even further behind with a double digit deficit early on in the second half. However, a solid defensive effort as well as plenty of made free throws would lead to a six point victory for North Greenville in the second half.

Recap
  • NGU would get on the board first with two baskets by Joe Conley followed by a layup from Draylan Burton. The three point game would then come into play as both teams would make two each. North Greenville would lead by as much as six in the half, but the Saints would take over for the remainder of the half, putting together a 9-3 run that was later followed by a fourteen point run to give Limestone a ten point lead. Zak Perdew ended the half with two made free throws to cut the deficit to eight, but LU would take a 37-29 lead into halftime.
  • Joe Conley scored the first points of the second half by way of a jumper. After two made shots by Limestone to increase their lead back to ten, NGU would cut back into the deficit with a seven point run including a three pointer by Kameron Hobbs. Trailing by five with eleven minutes remaining, a jumper by C.J. Jamison would start as well as end a ten point run to get the Crusaders a three point lead. A 7-2 run by the Saints would get them the lead back, but Limestone would not score a point in the final five minutes while NGU was able to score eight points during the span, all as a result of free throws. That would be enough to complete the comeback victory.

  • Draylan Burton led NGU in points with fourteen while also providing two assists and a steal.
  • Joe Conley hit double digits in points for the second straight game, posting thirteen and also recording seven rebounds.
  • Jacob Redding also hit double digits again with eleven points. He also put up six rebounds.
