Strong 2nd Quarter Not Enough to Keep Up With Belmont Abbey

Box Score Tigerville, SC - NGU fell victim to the high-scoring offense of the Belmont Abbey Crusaders with a final score of 83-51 this afternoon at Hayes Gymnasium. North Greenville put together a productive 2nd quarter with 24 points, but were outscored 18-3 in the 1st and 24-11 in the 3rd which proved to be too much to recover from. Journey Muhammad led the team with 11 points.

Recap
  • Journey Muhammad would give North Greenville a very early lead with a three pointer to lead 3-2. This would prove to be NGU's only lead of the game as Belmont Abbey would score the remaining points in the opening quarter to take an 18-3 lead.
  • North Greenville would start the 2nd quarter on a good note with a three pointer by Sarah Cline and two free throws by Journey Muhammad to close the gap to twelve points. Belmont Abbey would hang on to a double digit lead, and would open it up to 26 points with a 14 point run later in the quarter. Morgan Vulpis and Sarah Cline would close out the half with three pointers to make the score 47-27 at halftime.
  • NGU was able to keep up with BAC early on in the 3rd quarter, but began to struggle later, allowing Belmont Abbey to open up a 33 point lead. BAC shot 72.73% from the field in the quarter.
  • Both offenses slowed down in the 4th, with the two teams combining for just 25 points. Tolisha Walker scored the first points of the quarter by way of a jumpshot. North Greenville went on to outscore Belmont Abbey in the quarter, but BAC would hang on to at least a 30 point lead for the duration of the quarter, ultimately winning by 32 points.
