Tigerville, SC - The North Greenville Trailblazers fell to the Young Harris Mountain Lions with a final score of 59-55 this evening at Hayes Gymnasium. NGU struggled throughout the first half, converting just two field goals and two free throws to score just seven points. YHC also struggled offensively in the first half with just seventeen points. The second half turned out to be a completely different story as both offenses were able to spring to life. North Greenville put together a dominant 3rd quarter, scoring twenty-six points and making eight of twelve field goals to lead 34-33 going into the 4th quarter. Both teams continued to shoot well, but after being tied at 53-53, the Mountain Lions would go on a five point run as NGU wouldn't score until seven seconds remained in the game. A free throw by Young Harris put the game on ice as they would hang on for a four point victory. After going into halftime with a field goal percentage of 8.7%, North Greenville ended the game with a 36.7 field goal percentage. Second chance points proved to be a factor as YHC led the category 17-6 and also led by a wide margin in offensive rebounds 13-4.
Austin Johnson led NGU in points with 16 and also provided 4 rebounds and 2 steals. Maliyah Mason recorded 8 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, and a steal.
Isabel Waite posted 8 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, and a steal.
NGU will face the Patriots of Francis Marion University on Saturday, February 21st in Florence, South Carolina.
