Box Score

Tigerville, S.C. – North Greenville used a big third quarter to distance itself and later held off a fourth-quarter rally to upend Chowan 73-59 in a rare Monday afternoon Conference Carolinas showcase.

North Greenville got plenty of scoring with five players in double-figures including 16-points from Damiya Montgomery who came off the bench to lead all scorers. A closely contested first half turned in NGU’s favor midway through the third quarter when the Crusaders gained a 10-point edge, the largest of the game for either team.

North Greenville closed out the final four minutes of the frame on a 13-3 run after trailing by two points a few seconds earlier. Montgomery helped the NGU cause with six points during the run while Karen Donehew and Peace Okeke also got in on the scoring action with a bucket each.

North Greenville kept the Hawks and arm's length in the final five minutes but not before the visitors made a late run. Chowan chopped the once 10-point edge to just five points with 8:34 left and again at 5:20 but North Greenville had an answer each time. Haylee Luttrell helped put the game away for NGU down the backstretch with four consecutive makes from the free-throw line while Muhammaed Journey also added a pair of free throws to extend the lead in the final seconds.

Other double-digit scorers for NGU included Peace Okeke, Savannah Hughes, and Journey Muhammed who had 12-points each. Luttrell finished with 10-points. Peace Okeke added a game-high 15-rebounds for the game’s only double-double while Karen Donehew dished out four assists and had three blocked shots on defense. Hughes also had four assists.
