Crusaders Fall to Tornado in Three Sets

Box Score

North Greenville finished the weekend with a 3-0 loss to the Tornado of King University in Bristol, Tennessee. The match began with a competitive opening set, but NGU would fall to a bigger deficit in the second set and an even bigger one in the third. Erin Allen led North Greenville in kills with 10 while Katie McManaway posted a team-leading 34 total attacks.

The Crusaders would begin set one with a small lead and would only trail three times in the set. After NGU opened up a 9-5 lead, King came back with an 8-3 run to lead 13-12. From there, North Greenville would quickly take the lead back by scoring five points in a row with four of those points being a result of kills. The Tornado would take the momentum back to go on a 7-2 run to lead 20-19. NGU scored three of the next four, but King would finish out the set with four of the final five points to take a 25-23 set win.

NGU once again opened up the second set with a small lead. The majority of the set would not see either team lead by more than two. Tied at 20-20, the Tornado would go on to score five of the final six points to win the set 25-21.

Set three proved to be a struggle for the Crusaders as they were unable to get momentum to remain on their side. After trailing by four or more for most of the set, NGU showed signs of life to pull within two points. However, King would dominate from there, closing out the set and the match with an 11-3 run to take the final set 25-15.

Next time out the Crusaders will face the Warriors of Southern Wesleyan University on Wednesday, October 23rd in Tigerville.
