Shelton Hits Double Digits as NGU Falls to Belmont Abbey

North Greenville fell short in the Battle of the Crusaders with a 73-55 loss to Belmont Abbey. NGU shot 30.6% from the field but did convert 11 of 12 free throws (91.7%). Ayano Shelton led North Greenville with 10 points.

1st Quarter

After a slow start, Belmont Abbey scored the first basketball over two minutes into the quarter. However, they would begin the game with an 8-2 run. NGU came back with five-consecutive points to trail by just one point. BAC would end the quarter with a 14-10 lead.

2nd Quarter

Belmont Abbey started the quarter with all of the momentum, scoring nine-consecutive points to lead 23-10. From there, both teams put ten additional points on the board throughout the remainder of the quarter to make the score 33-20 at halftime. Journey Muhammed led NGU with five points in the half.

3rd Quarter

Both teams shot well to begin the second half. North Greenville was able to chip away at the deficit for awhile, but Belmont Abbey ended the quarter with a 10-2 run to lead 53-35 as the quarter came to a close.

4th Quarter

North Greenville trailed by as much as 27 points early on in the quarter. However, NGU fought back with a 10-0 run to cut the deficit to 17. Both teams would score several buckets to end the game with BAC taking the victory 73-55. North Greenville shot 35.3% in the second half with Ayana Shelton leading in points scored with eight.

Individual

Ayano Shelton posted 10 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists.

Haylee Luttrell recorded 8 points, 4 rebounds, and an assist.

Savannah Hughes put up 8 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and a steal.

The Crusaders will return to Tigerville to face the Emmanuel Lions on Wednesday, December 12th.
