NGU Suffers Overtime Loss to Southern Wesleyan

Tigerville, SC - NGU fell to the Southern Wesleyan Warriors 66-65 in a thrilling game that required overtime. The Crusaders had a solid game offensively with a 50% field goal percentage. Kovi Tate achieved a double-double with 23 points and 10 rebounds.

1st Half

SWU led the first seven minutes of the game, but a layup by Kovi Tate gave the Crusaders their first lead with 12:30 remaining in the half. North Greenville would then lead by as much a five points before giving the lead back up to the Warriors when a three-pointer put them ahead 25-24. However, the Crusaders would end the half with a 7-3 run to lead as time expired with a score of 31-28.

2nd Half

NGU dominated the beginning of the second half with a 10-3 run to take a 41-31 lead. Kovi Tate would take over offensively by scoring 16-consecutive points for the Crusaders. Late in the half, two three-pointers by NGU put the Crusaders ahead 60-56. A three-pointer and a free throw by SWU would tie the game wth 2:18 remaining in regulation. Both teams would each score a three-pointer before time expired with the two teams tied 63-63.

Overtime

The Warriors scored an early three-pointer to take a 66-63 lead. North Greenville went scoreless in the period until a Roderick Howell jump shot put them within one point with 1:57 remaining. However, the Crusaders were unable to put up another point, allowing the Warriors to escape with the victory.

Individual

Kovi Tate scored a double-double with 23 points and 10 rebounds. He also recorded 3 steals and a block.

Roderick Howell played well on his birthday with 12 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 blocks.

DJ Brooks hit double digits in points as well with 10. He also recorded 5 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 blocks, and a steal.

The Crusaders will head to Wilson, North Carolina on Saturday, December 1st to face the Barton Bulldogs.
