NGU Splits Tri-Match Against Belmont Abbey and Chowan

North Greenville split a tri-match in Belmont, NC with a 3-1 loss to the Belmont Abbey Crusaders and a 3-0 win against the Chowan Hawks. Katie McManaway led NGU in total attacks with 50. The Crusaders now hold a conference record of 4-4, good for 4th place in the Conference Carolinas South Division standings.

Match 1

Set 1

The Crusaders began on a good note by scoring five of the first six points. NGU never looked back as they would go on to dominate the set, leading as much as nine. North Greenville would end the set with a 7-1 run to take the opening set 25-13.

Set 2

Belmont Abbey seemed to be on a mission in the second set. Leading 10-5, BAC would take over by going on a 15-5 run including eight of the final nine points to win the set 25-10.

Set 3

In the first competitive set of the match, NGU and Belmont Abbey would tie at 5-5 and again at 10-10. North Greenville was able to pull ahead for much of the remainder of the set, but BAC stormed back to go on a 6-1 run to end the set with a score of 25-23.

Set 4

The final set of the match would see several momentum swings. Belmont Abbey pulled out to a 9-4 lead, but NGU would come back to tie the set 16-16. However, North Greenville was unable to pull ahead, ultimately dropping the set 25-21.

Individual

Katie McManaway led North Greenville in both kills (10) and total attacks (36).

Annie Beisecker recorded 9 kills and 22 attacks.

Paige Beisecker also finished with 9 kills and just one less attack than her sister.

 

Match 2

Set 1

Chowan jumped out to a 10-7 lead early on, but North Greenville would come back to tie the set at 14-14. From there, NGU would score 11 of the final 17 points to win the first set 25-20.

Set 2

Once again, the Hawks jumped out to an early lead with a 6-2 score. NGU would respond to tie the set, and the two teams would go back and forth from there. Tied 17-17, NGU scored four consecutive points to lead 21-17. The momentum then turned to the Hawks, who would come back to tie once again 24-24. Kills by Rachel Miller and Courtney Williamson ultimately won the set for the Crusaders 26-24.

Set 3

The Hawks began the set with a small lead, but the Crusaders put together a 5-point run to lead 9-6. North Greenville pulled away from there to eventually win the set 25-17.

Individual

Courtney Williamson came back strong in the second match of the day with 32 total attacks and 10 kills.

Paige Beisecker continued to produce with 11 kills and 17 total attacks.

Emma Pepper had a strong showing as well with 7 kills and 14 total attacks.

 

Upcoming

The Crusaders will return home to take on the Emmanuel Lions in Tigerville on Friday, October 12th.
