Tigerville, S.C. – Drew Warren’s goal less than one minute into overtime on Wednesday night gave North Greenville a 7-6 over Mars Hill University, wrapping up the 2016 season for the Crusaders.

Drew Wassenaar tallied the first three goals for the Crusaders. The Lions took a 1-0 lead before Wassenaar’s first of the game evened the score at one. Wassenaar’s second goal of the day evened the score at two while his third gave the Crusaders their first lead of the night.

Alex Proly gave the Crusaders a two goal advantage with his one-timer in the third quarter, but a stingy Lions squad scored two unanswered to make the score 4-4 with 12:31 left in the game.

Proly would give North Greenville the lead once more with his second of the game which make the score 5-4 while Warren’s first goal of the game made the score 6-4. The Lions would once again fight back, scoring twice in less than a minute to even the score at six.

Both teams would have chances to score the game winner in regulation but were unable to find the back of the net.

North Greenville’s Matthew Sandoval made the biggest save of the game in the overtime period. Jaren Szafranski would take a pass from Jalen Bell who picked up the lose ball and charge down the field, connecting with Warren in the crease. Warren deposited the goal in the top left corner, earning NGU the sudden death victory.

Wassenaar led the Crusaders with three goals while Warren and Proly both had two. Sandoval finished the night with six saves. The Crusaders finished with 24 shots on goal.

North Greenville wraps up 2016 with a 5-10 record, surpassing last year’s mark. NGU was 5-2 in Tigerville.
