Box Score
The North Greenville volleyball team fell to 1-11 on the
season and 0-3 in Conference Carolinas play on Wednesday night after a tough
3-2 loss to Limestone College. It was NGU’s first game in the friendly confines
of Hayes Gymnasium since the beginning of September after embarking on a six
game road trip over the last several weeks.
The Crusaders will continue a four game home stand on Friday
night, into Saturday, when Lees-McRae comes to Tigerville to open the weekend.
The Crusaders will also host Clark Atlanta and King University on Saturday in a
tri-match.
Statistically, the Crusaders are led on offense by sophomore
Yomi Adeyeye who is the team leader in kills with 133, good enough for second
in Conference Carolinas. She is currently the only player with triple digit
kills, while Elizabeth James has taken over the team’s setter spot, dishing out
179 helpers, while also registering 66 kills, the second highest among the NGU
netters. Defensively, Gabby Sehres has proven
herself to be a commodity handing out six solo blocks, and 28 assists, ranking
her 7th in the league.
Lees-McRae
The Crusaders will welcome a Lees-McRae squad who sits just
above NGU in the standings at 0-2 in Conference Play, but 1-12 overall. The Bobcats lone win of the season came against
a common opponent for NGU, in UVA-Wise. The Bobcats won the decision over the
3-2 at the King University Invitational nearly two weeks ago.
The Bobcats feature a roster that boasts four upperclassmen
including three seniors and a junior. The
Bobcats were voted fifth in the Conference Pre-season poll, right below the
Crusaders, who were voted fourth, the same spot they finished in, after their
2012 playoff run.
Freshmen outside hitter Avalon Liscio leads the Bobcats with
110 points on the season, averaging 2.50 kills per set. Veteran Candace Niemiec
is a solid middleman for Lees-McRae with 110 helpers to lead the team.
King University
The Tornado come into the weekend sitting at the top of the
conference, with a 10-3 overall record, and a 2-0 mark in league play. King is
currently riding the momentum of a nine game win streak, including wins over
conference foes Belmont Abbey, who was voted the top team in the pre-season
conference pole, and Pfeiffer University.
Summer Kremer is the leading point getter for the Tornado, with
150 kills on the season to lead the conference. Two other King players also
rank in the top 10 in the conference for kills including Maribeth Kern (119)
and Kelsey Griffits (103). Griffits is
also ranked first in the conference with a
.403 hitting percentage. King also boasts a league leader in digs in
Payton Tipton who has 220 on the season.
Olivia Underwood is having a strong season in the middle for
King, dishing out with 415 on the season. Averaging 8.47 per game, Underwood
ranks second among conference setters.
Clark Atlanta
Clark Atlanta roles into Tigerville, having a solid season,
enjoying an 8-1 start to the 2013 season. Like the Tornado, the Panthers are
also riding a winning streak, winning seven in a row. With their only loss of
the season coming to Kentucky State, the Panthers rest in second place in the
Eastern Division of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The
Crusaders and Panthers faced off twice in 2011, with NGU taking both decisions
by scores of 3-0 and 3-1.
