Tigerville, S.C.—The North Greenville women’s basketball
team fell to 2-9 in Conference Carolinas play and 4-11 overall after a tough
63-56 loss to Queens University on Saturday afternoon.
Timisty Nelson was the only player in double figures for NGU
with 18 points. Alisha Hope was next in line with 9 points and Ciara Anderson
had 8. The Crusaders forced 30 turnovers on defense, 15 of which were steals.
Ashleigh Edwards led that category with 4 takeaways.
Neither team was able to grab the upper hand in the first
half, trading the lead 7 times in the first 20 minutes of play. The biggest
lead for either team was 4 until the Royals closed the half on a 5-0 run
to take a 6 point advantage into
the locker room.
Queens extended its lead in the second half, dropping 5
points in the opening minute of the second half, giving the Royals a 35-24
lead. The royals would eventually push the lead to 15 points with 17:03 left in
the game. The Crusaders kept fighting and cut the Queens lead to 5 with 12:54.
North Greenville’s best chance to tie the game came with 3:11
left in the game. Trailing by three, Tyler Powers pulled up and nailed a long
three, but the shot was waived off for a traveling violation. The Royals would
go on to win the game by 7.
Shonice Pettaway led the way for Queens dropping 24 points to lead all scorers.
Pettaway was also the games leading rebounder with 15. The Royals dominated the
boards collecting 50 missed shots to just 30 for NGU. Tia Hudgens was also in
double figures for the Royals with 10 points.
