Charlotte, N.C.—The North Greenville women’s basketball team
fell victim to cold shooting on Tuesday night while falling to 1-1 on the
season falling to the Golden Bulls of Johnson C. Smith 65-44.
The loss comes just three days after beating Division I affiliate
USC Upstate on Friday night. The Crusaders shot just 28% from the floor and 33%
from the charity stripe.
North Greenville looked to be in good shape to open the game
as they hit three of their first four shots to take a 4-0 lead. NGU led until
the 13:56 mark when the Golden Bulls tied the game at 8.
Johnson C. Smith gained the Advantage with 12:30 left in the
first half and would never relinquish it. The Golden Bulls led the Crusaders by
17 at intermission aided greatly by a 12-2 run to close out the final 3:10 of
the first period of play.
In the second half, NGU worked vigorously to cut the Golden
Bulls lead down the cold shooting plagued the Crusaders. North Greenville shot
a mere 27.3% from the field in the second half. NGU could only cut the Bulls
lead down to 15 points. North
Greenville was just 2 of 13 from behind the three-point arch, adding to the
frustration.

Golden Bulls out-rebounded the Crusaders 57-46 and capitalized with 15 second
Chance points; 32 bench points, also aided the Bulls.
Also adding to the struggle of the Crusaders was 22
committed turnovers. “We just didn’t play a very good game,” said head Jayne
Arledge after the game. “We turned the ball over too many times. They were also
very tall and we had some injuries to post players that were not able to play.
We found some weaknesses tonight and we will have to work on them to get
better.”
The Crusaders will have six days to correct their mistakes
before they take on Emmanuel College in their first home game of the 2011-2012
season. The game between the Crusaders and Lions is a rematch of the 2011 NCCAA
South Regional Championship game and will tip at 8pm on November 21st.
