Young Harris, Ga.—The North Greenville Women’s basketball
team dropped a 57-56 decision to Young Harris College on Saturday in a game
that was marred by turnovers and cold shooting from both teams.
The Lady Crusaders committed just one more turnover than the
Mountain Lions (25 to 24) while shooting just 38 percent from the field.
The Lady Crusaders were led by their bench players who
accounted for 22 points. The leading scorer for NGU was freshman Brooks Walz
who scored 12 points, a new career high. Krisceda Cotton also accounted for 12
points, while Erin Gray scored six, while collecting a team high six
rebounds. Walz was 3 of 5 from the
three point arch.
NGU and Young Harris fought for the lead for most of the
game both gaining the advantage twice during the 40 minute contest. North
Greenville gained its final lead with 11:01 left in the game and held it until
the 21 second mark when the Mountain Lions tied the game at 56. Young Harris
would hit a free throw with no time left on the clock to give the Mountain
Lions the one point victory.
The loss drops the Crusaders to 4-9 on the season with a
three game home stand on the horizon, starting with King College on January 19th
at 6pm.
