Tigerville, S.C.—The North Greenville Women’s Basketball
team suffered its first home loss of the 2010 season Saturday night falling to
Queens University 60-51.
The game between the Lady Crusaders and Royals was a back
and forth match that saw 13 lead changes and seven ties. North Greenville’s biggest lead of the
night was eight points with 11:42 left in the game.
The Crusaders jumped out to a six point lead early in the
first half. Karly Stache, who led wall scorers with 20 points, was involved
early and often. In the first half
Stache was five of eight from the field in the first half for 17 points, 15 of
which came from behind the arch. She finished six of nine.
The Crusaders however went into the intermission trailing
Queens 29-16. The North Greenville jumped ahead of the Royals in the early
moments of the second half. Erin
Gray Gray opened the second half scoring for NGU cutting the Queens lead to one
pointjust 20 seconds into the half. Gray hit the go ahead layup about a minute
later to put the Lady Crusaders up by one point.
North Greenville held the lead until the 7:02 mark when
Queens tied the game at 45. After two minutes of scoreless basketball the Lady
Royals took a two point lead before NGU evened the score again. With four
minutes left in the game Queens retook the lead and would go ahead to hold on
for the nine point victory.
With the loss North Greenville falls to 1-2 on the season. The
next game for the Lady Crusaders will be Tuesday at 6pm against local rival
Southern Wesleyan.
