Crusaders fall to Limestone in semifinals

Mount Olive, N.C. – The season came to an end for NGU Women’s Lacrosse on Thursday after a 15-7 loss to Limestone in the league semi-finals.

The Saints got off to a quick start and put the Crusaders in an 8-1 hole midway through the first half. The Crusaders got a goal from Hanna Hawkins to cut a four-goal deficit to just three (4-1) but the Saints answered with four more unanswered scores to gain a seven-goal lead.

The Crusaders countered with back-to-back goals from Olivia Foltz and Brenis Napoli to make it 8-3 with 11:27 left before halftime. Both teams added one more goal before the end of the first half with Aly Estes added a score as Limestone led 9-4 at halftime.

The Saints offense put North Greenville in a bind in half two, scoring to make it 15-4 just 10-minutes into the frame. The Crusaders put together a string of goals late but were unable to claw back. Rachel Kellogg added a pair of scores while Hanna Hawkins tacked on one more but the Saints kept NGU off the board for the final three minutes of the game to end NGU’s season.

Kellogg and Hawkins led North Greenville with two goals while Olivia Foltz dished out five assists in that time. Foltz also dished out four caused turnovers and collected four grounders.

Foltz also scored a goal. Sydney Taylor finished her career as a Crusaders with 18-saves on the night.
