Box Score Franklin Springs, GA - High offensive production, a quality start by Tucker Burgess, and some defensive mistakes for Emmanuel led to a one-sided Crusader victory on a Friday night in Franklin Springs.
After a scoreless first inning, the Crusaders led off the second with a home run down the right field line by Ryan Brown. Later in the inning, thanks to two errors by Emmanuel, Brandon Odachowski was able to bring in a second run when he reached on an error to make the score 2-0 in favor of NGU.
North Greenville continued to score in the third inning. With two runners in scoring position, Josh Black doubled to right field to bring in Andrew Frazier and Nathaniel Maggio. Sean Parsons would then drive in Black with an RBI single to right field.
Emmanuel would finally get on the scoreboard in the fifth thanks to an RBI double to right center by Tim Manning.
The Crusaders were able to respond with a run in the sixth. After a leadoff double by Parsons, Bennette Hill singled to center field to bring in the run to increase the North Greenville lead back to 5.
NGU would produce another three-run inning in the seventh. With a runner on second, an RBI single by Black brought in Connor Grant. After a pitching change by the Lions, Taylor McCuen was entered into the game to pinch hit for Parsons. Two runs scored after McCuen was able to reach first thanks to an error to make the score 9-1.
With two outs in the eighth, Alex Williams entered the game to pinch hit for Frasier. Williams would come through with an RBI single to right field. After a dominant start by Burgess, Shane Bishop made a relief appearance in the eighth. Emmanuel would show signs of life in the inning with two RBI doubles and an RBI groundout to score three runs in the inning.
The Crusaders were able to get one of those runs back in the ninth with Andrew Plunkett scoring on a wild pitch. The bases would eventually be loaded, but NGU was unable to score any additional runs. Jared Lembcke entered the game in the bottom of the inning to finish off the game. He gave up two hits but no runs to secure the win for North Greenville.
NGU improves their overall record to 18-5 and their conference record to 6-1. Emmanuel falls to 10-11 overall and 4-6 in conference play. Tucker Burgess received the win. The two teams will face each other again tomorrow in a doubleheader beginning at noon.
