Box Score Strong pitching proved to be the difference on a rainy day in Mars Hill, NC. Zack Kamerman, who was the starting pitcher for the Crusaders, pitched seven shutout innings and allowed just three hits and one walk. With the win, his record improved to 3-1 for the season.
The game itself was very short for a nine-inning game, lasting just over one hour and fifty minutes. That was largely thanks to nine three up, three down half innings as well as just seven hits between the two teams.
After failing to get on base in the first two innings, Brandon Odachowski was able to reach first base thanks to an error to lead off the third. Another error on the next play allowed Daniel Myers to reach second base while Odachowski advanced to third. Eric Gilbert then came through with a sacrifice fly to center field to give the Crusaders their first run of the game. A groundout by Clark Scolamiero brought in the second run of the inning.
North Greenville would strike again in the fourth with a two-run homer by Andrew Frazier to make the score 4-0.
Zak Kamerman was relieved by Trent Spikes in the eighth inning. Spikes went on to complete the shutout by not allowing a baserunner.
With the win, the Crusaders improved to 11-4 while Mars Hill fell to 8-8. North Greenville will travel to Aiken, SC tomorrow to face the Pacers of USC Aiken. That game was originally scheduled for a 6:00 PM start time, but has since been moved up to 5:00 PM.
